About the Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
The human papillomavirus exist in many forms.
Some cause anogenital warts; others cause cervical cancers.
Those that cause cervical cancers are known as High-Risk HPV types.

HPV causes 70% of oropharyngeal cancers (throat area just behind the mouth). Other contributing factors to this cancer include smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.
HPV is also detected in 90% of anal cancer cases, with high-risk type HPV-16 being the most likely cause (80% of anal cancer cases).
